Jakarta, Indonesia, January 31, 2016: The joint press conference between the Olympic Council of Asia and 18th Asian Games 2018 Organising Committee brought the 3rd OCA Coordination Committee meeting to a close at the Fairmont Jakarta Hotel on Sunday afternoon.
The Chairman of the OCA Coordination Committee, Tsunekazu Takeda, led the OCA delegation, while the Indonesian side was represented by Erick Thohir, President of the Indonesian Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Organising Committee.
Mr Takeda told the media that the two-day meeting had been rich with fruitful discussions. “We are very happy with the organising committee. They are working very well and have progressed very much since the last Coordination Committee meeting,” he said.
Mr Takeda said the meeting had confirmed the number of sports at 37, including 28 Olympic sports, and that the final selection of non-Olympic sports would be made by the organising committee in the near future.
The Japanese Olympic Committee President thanked the central government and local governments of co-host cities Jakarta and Palembang for supporting the organising committee and for working together on the venue programme and other crucial aspects of preparation.
Wrapping up the 3rd CC meeting earlier in the day, Mr Takeda listed a number of areas of attention for the organising committee, including the appointment of Technical Delegates, marketing, TV and Host Broadcaster issues and Games legacy.
The 4th OCA CC meeting for the 18th Asian Games will take place on May 10-11 in Jakarta.
