Macau, China: Macau’s seven medal-winners from the Incheon Asian Games were among the athletes
and coaches rewarded for their efforts in 2014 by the Macau government’s Sports Development
Board at a lavish ceremony on Friday night.
The 17th Asian Games were held from September 19 to October 4 at Incheon,Korea, and Macau went
home with seven medals.
There were three silver medals, all in wushu, for Jia Rui, Li Yi and Huang Junhua, and four bronze
medals, for Cheung Pui Si (karate), Paula Carion (karate), Liu Qing (taekwondo) and Wang Junnan
(taekwondo).
The silver medal-winners each received 120,000 MOP (15,000 USD) and the bronze medal-winners
were given 80,000 MOP (10,000 USD). Their coaches received half this amount, resulting in a total
government pay-out for the Asian Games of 1,020,000 MOP (127,500 USD).
Paula Carion, who was competing in her third Asian Games after making her debut at Doha 2006, will
be travelling to the OCA HQ in Kuwait this week to take part in the 2nd Asian Athletes’ Forum from
January 22-24.
